The Pauper’s Daughter
(Markus Rill)

The pauper's daughter left this town
must be ‘bout eight or ten years now
Everyone was wondering “Where is that girl bound?”

Not many girls like her around
dressed in rags but head held proud
she always seemed to be a queen without a crown
she always seemed to me a queen without a crown

The pauper died some years ago
if she got word we’ll never know
there was a funeral but the daughter did not show

These days we talk about her still
in the valley, up on the hill
she never did come home, perhaps someday she will
she hasn't come yet but I know someday she will

Seasons change and years go by
hope is born and learns to fly
some dreams they fade away, some they never die
some dreams they fade away, some they never die
